Cobra Confiscation

Tue, 09/11/2007 - 19:08 - k9

Defanged and devenomed cobra with initial stage panophthalmitis. The close-up below clearly shows the punctured venom gland to the rear of the eye.

Small rusted tin containing an extremely dehydrated hatchling buff-striped keelback and a hatchling defanged and devenomed cobra.

A cobra, which was well past the stage of recovery, expired within hours of confiscation. Depicted here is the cremation of the animal along with its wooden cell. All confiscated snake fatalities are burnt for two reasons - to prevent the release of harmful bacteria among wild animals and the destruction of the skin which is a much sought after wild-animal article.
